Agape Precepts

Who We Are

Agape Project, Inc. has been called to come alongside the Christian community, expressly through the churches, to meet the needs of the single mother and her family.  The churches in this community have expressed a compassion and a desire to help.  They confess they understand very little about the trials and struggles of the single mother, nor do they have the resources, financially or physically, to meet the ever-growing population of single parents.  Yet, the Scriptures clearly give the directive to assist in meeting the needs of the alien, widow, and orphans.

Our Mission Statement

Biblical Welfare

It has always been the role of the church to help those in need with biblical welfare.  Biblical welfare is quite different from government welfare.  The government is a poor source, biblically, and a poor solution, practically.  The federal government has begun to realize that their methods are ineffective and have passed the responsibility on to the states.  The states fear they will be overburdened and are pulling out of the welfare business by making drastic cuts and initiating new regulations.  As cuts continue, more single mothers will be sent to local churches to meet their needs.  God has called Agape to respond.  The function of biblical welfare is to feed people and care for their needs, but the purpose of biblical welfare is to draw people to God by the physical expression of Christian love.  Agape Project, Inc. is committed to the biblical purpose of welfare.

Our Vision Statement

Reach & Teach

In Romans 15:7-13 Paul affirms that the Good News of Jesus Christ is for the Jews (insiders) and Gentiles (outsiders).  Jesus came to the Jews to show that God had kept the promises He had made.  Christ also came so that the Gentiles would praise God for being kind to them. Agape believes it can apply this scripture to the church (insiders) and the widows and orphans (outsiders).  The goal of Agape Project, Inc. is to work from the inside out (the churches), so that the outsiders (single mothers) will experience mercy and show appreciation to God.  Verse 9 is a result:  "I will tell the nations about You, and I will sing praises to Your name."  Verse 10 says they will "Come and celebrate with God's people."  What a promise if we are faithful.  It will take much cooperation and commitment to accomplish this goal, but it is possible, with God's grace.

When Nehemiah was called to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, he had a plan.  He went to the king, asked for men and supplies and all that was needed and through the king, Nehemiah began the task.  He was the builder and organizer.  There is an analogy that can be used as we focus on the ministry that relates to Nehemiah:  We don't want to build for them, we want to teach them to build.  This will be the practical out-working of Agape.  The vision is to bring these precious women to a life-changing knowledge of Jesus Christ, at the same time teach them to build!  It will take the entire community to build the walls that will support single mothers and their children.  The churches and its people, the business community and its leaders--all are needed to accomplish the work.
