In an effort to focus on a compelling need for mental health services for our single mothers, a $15,000 grant was awarded to Agape Project from the United Thank Offering of the Episcopal Church to allow us to sub-contract a local, professional Christian counselor, for five hours each week for 50 weeks. This grant provides much needed emotional and mental health counseling to our clients at no cost to them. Childcare is provided for the mothers while they are engaged in counseling sessions. Family-style meals are offered free of charge. What we hope to accomplish is stated in Hosea 2:14-15, “Therefore I am now going to assure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her. There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor [trouble] a door of hope…” The Valley of Achor was a place of despair and devastation; a place where many of our single mothers find themselves today. Agape’s mission is to open to them a Door of Hope.
Door of Hope consists of four doors:
- Door 1 - Emotional/Mental Health Counseling for Personal, Relational, and Social Development
- Door 2 - Educational Partnering for Educational Planning, Career Development, and Scholarships
- Door 3 - Financial Mentoring and Time Management
- Door 4 - Spiritual Discipleship for Life Building and Building for Eternity through Campus Crusade for Christ's Life Builder's approach.
